Be safe from the 5 common blind spots while driving

As accidents are unwanted, it is important to be careful while driving. However, even when you are already careful, sometimes accidents can still happen because you overlook the “blind spot”.

Today, PTT Lubricants has brought you the 5 blind spots that you should be aware of while driving for the safety of both yourselves and everyone else on the road. What will be those spots? Let's see.

📌 Blind spot from A-pillar

This is an inevitable blind spot as it is a part that was designed to be attached to the car frame. This is a point that is considered problematic, especially on the right side of the driver, as it tends to induce accidents while turning or making U-turns.

However, we can reduce the risk of accidents by adjusting the seat slightly upward. Also, when turning and making a U-turn, lean forward or backward slightly, away from the A-pillar. It will help you see more clearly.

📌 Blind spot from the rearview mirror

It is a blind spot that some drivers may overlook because they are more used to looking at the side mirrors.  Another problem is when you pile things on the backseat to the point that it is blocking the rear windshield and whatever is behind the car.  Therefore, there is a high chance of an accident.

It is recommended to not stack things so high that they block the rear windshield of the car because you will not be able to see other vehicles or obstructions behind.

📌 Blind spot from side mirrors

The problem with this blind spot is that the angle of the mirror was not adjusted to cover enough area, making it impossible to see the car coming from the side lane and can lead to accidents in the end.

Therefore, before driving, check and adjust the side mirrors to the right angle both left and right.  You can do so by adjusting the mirror to where you can clearly see the car on the side lanes and the road surface. Also, adjust the sitting posture to be in a comfortable and proper position so that you can look at the side mirror in a timely manner.

📌 Blind spots from being blocked by larger vehicles

It is a blind spot that most drivers should avoid. If you drive too close to a large vehicle such as a truck or bus, the visibility of the side and front paths will be blocked. You will not be able to see the road conditions ahead or estimate the speed of other cars that are sharing the route, potentially resulting in an accident.

Therefore, we should keep a distance of about 10 meters from a large vehicle, or enough to clearly see other cars in front. If you want to overtake them, you should only take the right lane as large vehicle drivers may not be able to see our car from the left side which can cause an accident.

📌 Blind spots from road conditions

It is a blind spot that is often encountered when you have to drive on an unfamiliar road, such as a blind spot from a curve, an intersection, or a hilly road.  All of which can lead to accidents if you ignore the road safety rules or are careless.

The way to prevent accidents is to strictly obey traffic rules, such as the prohibition of overtaking on a curve or crossing an opposite lane.  For driving up hills, don't use too much speed since we can't see if there are other cars or obstacles on the road ahead.  It is recommended to slow down until you have passed through all the hilly points for your safety, then you can gradually switch to normal speed.

As you can see, these 5 blind spots can cause unexpected accidents.  Therefore, you have to always be careful when driving and follow the traffic rules, for your own safety during the journey.  With care, from PTT Lubricants 💙
