Let’s learn more! Which season is the best time to change your tires?

Sunshine, rain, or cold wind— weather is one of the important factors that will affect the way you take care of your car. This includes the engine parts, braking system, engine cooling system, and car tires as well.

As car tires play a crucial role in supporting the vehicle's weight, absorbing shocks, minimizing vibrations from the road surface, and facilitating safe driving and braking, they are an essential component that should not be overlooked.

But how should we take care of our car tires in different seasons? Today, PTT Lubricants will help you learn more about the recommended ways to maintain your tires in each season, including when to replace them, and ensuring that your car is ready to handle all weather conditions. If you're ready, let's take a closer look!

Summer

When parking the car in the sun for a long time, the tires may crack or become bald due to the extremely hot weather in Thailand. During this time, it is better to avoid parking your car in the sun to preserve the tires as much as possible.

As for changing car tires, if the tires have become bald from being parked for a long time, it is recommended to change the tires before the next use for your safety as there is a risk of tire explosion.

Rainy Season

During this season, one thing that you should always check is the tire tread grooves as they are the parts that help drain water from the tires’ surfaces. If the tread grooves have become shallow or the tires have become bald, it is recommended to change them right away to maintain efficient drainage of the tires. Shallow grooves and bald treads can affect the road gripping ability of the tires and cause the tires to hydroplane. This will also increase the braking distance when driving on wet roads as well.

You can check the condition of your tires by observing the area between the tread grooves, often referred to as the 'rubber bridge.' If the rubber bridge is worn during the rainy season, it is recommended to change that tire right away. When the remaining treads become bald and reach the rubber bridges, the braking distance on wet roads will be 30-50 meters longer than usual. This can significantly impact braking distance estimation and may lead to an accident.

Winter

Colder weather in winter can cause tire pressure to drop. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly check the tire pressure and inflate the tires in accordance with the type of tires used to ensure their efficient grip on the road. This will also help extend the service life of the tires and help save fuel as well.

Remember to always check the condition of your car's tires regularly in every season! If the tire groove depth is found to be lower than the rubber bridge or the rubber has cracked, become swollen, or has abnormal wear, it is recommended to change that tire right away for your own safety. With care from PTT Lubricants💙
