Why does water leak into the car?
One of the most common problems that often occurs during the rainy season is water leaking into the car. The risk of water leaking into the car is even higher if you have to drive through heavy rain or drive in areas that are flooded. But you can prevent water from leaking into your car and causing damage!
Today, PTT Lubricants has gathered together the top 4 causes of water leaking into cars during this rainy season and the ways to prevent it from causing damage to the car as well. Let’s see what to be aware of!
Why does water leak into the car?
1. The door seal has been worn out.
This problem mostly occurs with old cars that have been used for more than 10 years. A simple way to check whether the seal has worn out is to listen to the wind sound that comes into the car while driving. If the wind sound coming in is abnormally loud, it indicates that the door seal or window seal may have deteriorated. It is recommended to take your car to have the seal replaced as soon as possible.
2. Floor pan drain plug became loose.
The floor pan drain plug is located under the car's floor and it is what helps prevent water from flowing into the car. When having to drive through areas with high flooding, if the rubber stopper on the floor comes off and flows away, it can cause water to leak into the car.
3. The plastic wheel arch is broken.
When having to drive through flooded areas or driving while it is raining heavily, if the footrest area is found wet or water has leaked into the vehicle, it may be caused by a crack or leak in the plastic wheel arch. If this happens, the car should be taken to a service center and have the crack repaired immediately.
4. The air conditioner drainpipe is leaking.
The cause of the air conditioner drainpipe leak may not have happened because of the rain or flood. However, if the air conditioner water pipe leaks, it will cause water to accumulate in the car area. This can be observed by checking if there is a musty smell from the carpet on your feet. If yes, that may be because water has leaked and soaked into the carpet. If this happens, you should take your car to the service center for repairs to prevent rust on the car body as soon as possible.
Now that you have learned the cause of leaks, don't forget to check the condition of your car before going anywhere so that water cannot leak into the car during this rainy season so that your car can always be in good condition and for your own safety! With care from PTT Lubricants. 💙
