Biker must-knows!  Tips for  motorbike care

To bikers who use their bikes carelessly everyday, do you know that even though our motorcycles seem to be easier to maintain than cars, it may also require more frequent maintenance due to the higher duty cycle of the engine, the direct exposure to the weather outside and the inferior cooling efficiency (with air and water)? If our motorcycle is exposed to the sun and rain for a long time, problems may arise.

Today, PTT Lubricants would like to share with you some simple tips to take care of your motorcycle so it can run with you longer!

1. Change the engine oil at the specified interval:

One thing that cannot be forgotten is to change the engine oil at the specified interval in order to keep the engine running smoothly, reduce wear and prolong service life. Plus, the viscosity number and the standard should also match the use, since different types of motorcycle engine require different engine oil.

For example, 4-stroke motorcycles with manual transmissions need engine oil with proper friction that can lubricate the engine well while also keeping the clutch and transmission systems in good working order. You can choose from ones that have passed JASO MA /MA2 standards, etc. For automatic transmission motorcycles and scooters, on the other hand, it is recommended to mainly refer to the JASO MB standard.

2. Always check for unpleasant smells:

Do not ignore  unpleasant or unusual smells from the  motorcycles, such as smoke smell, burning smell and oil smell. These are the signs that indicate malfunctions in  the motorcycle engine. If you notice  these unpleasant smells, you should  take the bike to a service center for inspection immediately for your own safety.

3. Always clean the spark plugs:

The spark plug is an important part in the ignition system of a motorcycle. Therefore, we should always check the condition of the spark plug and make sure it is clean from the oil stains, sludge, ash or soot since the deterioration of the spark plug can cause hard starts , or engine jerking while driving.

4. Check the condition of the tires:

In addition to maintaining the motorcycle engine, do not forget to check the condition of the tires too, as they  contact the road all the time. It is recommended to choose a tire that has the right size for the bike and matches the use of the  vehicle. When inspecting  the tires, make sure that they are in perfect condition and ready to be on the road. If there is a crack or tear, that tire should be replaced immediately to prevent possible accidents. Also, make sure that the tire pressure is within the appropriate criteria. With this, your beloved bike can definitely run with you for a long time. 💙
