Drive safely with 5 proper motorcycle riding postures
Riding with proper postures plays a very important role in motorcycle control and safety while riding. When an unexpected event occurs, proper riding postures will help us deal with the situation in a timely manner.
Today, PTT Lubricants would like to introduce you to the 5 proper motorcycle riding postures that every biker should know for easier and safer vehicle control. Scroll down to learn more!
1. Body positioning
For a small motorcycle, you should keep your body upright and do not lean too close to the front of the bike. If it is a large motorcycle, the rider should lean forward slightly, but not too close to the oil tank so that you can move more freely and can safely take corners.
2. Foot positioning
Correct foot position will allow you to control the bike comfortably as if you are a part of the vehicle. It also has a good effect on transferring weight for cornering, gear shifting and braking as well. Therefore, positioning your feet on the footrests firmly by pinching your toes onto the footrest and moving the heel closer to the footrest base will allow you to move your feet to shift gears and press the brakes with ease.
3. Knee positioning
Adjusting knee position is a small point that affects the stability of the bike control. For a small motorcycle, place your knees towards the front of the bike. For a large motorcycle such as big bikes, clamp your knees firmly against the fuel tank without spreading the legs in order to maintain the stability and reduce the resistance of the incoming wind. This will make riding posture more beautiful while also increasing safety.
4. Positioning of arms, hands, and shoulders
Correct positioning of arms, hands, and shoulders is very important in controlling the motorcycle’s center of gravity. Particularly for those who ride a bike that has a lot of weight, the way you hold the handlebar is what determines your safety and can be extremely dangerous if held wrong. If you are holding the handlebar right, your wrist should be in the center of the handlebar with the hand not being too tense. The arms and shoulders should be free, not slacking or too tight so that you can freely control the direction when turning. Also, be sure to not spread elbows widely. With this, you can now control the motorcycle naturally and safely.
5. Eye positioning
Visibility is the key to safe driving. The correct eye positioning is to look towards the front of the road. However, don’t just focus on one point. Look as wide and far as possible so that you can be aware and prepared if there are foreign objects or abnormal things coming towards you from different directions.
And that concludes the 5 proper motorcycle riding positions! Don't forget to practice them so that you can control your motorcycle safely throughout the way while also maintain a beautiful riding posture 💙
