Does "gearbox flushing" really solve the jerking gear problem?

Automatic transmission is widely used in cars nowadays, especially the passenger cars, SUVs and PPVs. Due to that fact, the automatic transmission system has been developed to provide smoother gear shifting to increase driving comfort as well as better acceleration response and fuel economy.

However! If the car is used for a long time without a proper care or periodic oil change according to the specified intervals, it can cause problems such as the jerking gear, gear failure or malfunction. In addition to that, if the gear is severely damaged, you may end up having to spend a lot of money to repair or replace the gear.

For this reason, “gearbox flushing” is another option for automatic transmission fluid change. The gearbox flushing will be even more desirable in cases where highly contaminated transmission fluid in the system is found. The color of transmission fluid turns from red to black or dark brown and be highly contaminated from deterioration. It is also recommended in case of extended oil drain intervals or the fluid has been contaminated with water. When compared to the conventional fluid change, the flushing is better in terms of cleaning the internal parts of the transmission system and removing sediment, metal scraps and old fluid out of the system. Moreover, automatic transmission flushing also reduces contamination of the newly added transmission fluid, enabling the fluid to work at its full efficiency.

What is the automatic transmission flushing?

Automatic transmission flushing is an automatic transmission oil change conducted by using new fluid to push the old fluid out of the transmission system so that the new oil can be added up to almost 100%. This method is different from the regular method that drains and fills from the holes in the oil reservoir and opens the oil reservoir. With these two methods, the old fluid in the system will be drained out only about 40-70%, depending on the car model, fluid temperature and procedures during the oil drain. Some of the old transmission fluid will still remain in the transmission parts such as the torque converter and the valve body.

Automatic transmission flushing can be done by using a flushing machine to add new transmission oil and push the old oil out of the system, allowing almost 100% of the old transmission fluid to be drained from the system. However, gearbox flushing requires more amount of automatic transmission fluid than a normal oil change from a drain bolt or oil pan.

Does flushing the automatic transmission solve jerky gear??

In cases where automatic transmission jerks are caused by deterioration of the transmission oil from usage or water contamination until the oil properties are no longer suitable for use and effect to poor performance of the transmission system., Accordingly, changing the transmission fluid in the whole system by gearbox flushing will help flush out the sediment or dirt from the transmission system as much as possible (withoutremoving the gear parts to clean). As the flushing cleans the parts thoroughly, the parts will be able to move easily and the transmission system can work efficiently again. No more jerky gear!

However, if the jerks are caused by the wear and tear of the internal parts of the transmission system and severe damage due to the lack of regular maintenance or lack of the oil change at the proper distance for a long time, flushing the gearbox will NOT solve the jerk. It is necessary to have a technical expert disassemble the transmission system to check for damage or malfunctions in order to fix them on the spot.
