Hot spark plug VS Cold spark plug, which one is more suitable for your car?
Despite being small, spark plugs can help increase the efficiency of your engine to work more perfectly. It is known that spark plugs are responsible for the spark in the combustion chamber, causing the ignition to burn completely. Therefore, choosing the right spark plug for the engine is very important in order to ensure maximum efficiency of the car.
However, if you choose a spark plug that is not suitable for the engine, it may cause damage to the plug instead.
No worries! Today, PTT Lubricants is here to help. If you are wondering what is the difference between hot spark plugs and cold spark plugs or which one is better for your car, scroll down to find out!
🟥 Hot spark plug: a spark plug that cools down quite slow
🟦 Cool spark plug: a spark plug that cools down well and fast
Choosing the type of spark plug is very important to the engine as it can either positively or negatively affect the work. Therefore, when choosing spark plugs, you should first consider these following factors:
Working condition of the car
Since the ability to cool down with the hot spark plugs is slower, they are more suitable for old cars that generally have lower temperature in the combustion chamber. Cold spark plugs, on the other hand, are more suitable for new cars or cars that use higher speed as they require spark plugs that can cool down quickly.
Use of the car
When considering the use, see if your car is being used for light or heavy duty. If your car is being used for heavy duty, such as driving fast and carrying heavy loads, high combustion resulting from such activities will heat the combustion chamber up too high and can lead to heat accumulation at the spark plug area. In this case, cold spark plugs with good heat dissipation are recommended. Hot spark plugs, on the other hand, are suitable for old cars that are used for light duty work or rarely used as these vehicles do not burn fuel completely causing incomplete combustion. Moreover, the accumulation of heat in the spark plug is minimal in this type of vehicle, causing an incomplete combustion too.
If drivers are going to have the spark plugs replaced, don’t forget to choose the type of spark plug according to the manual or consult an expert. If you choose hot or cold spark plugs that are not suitable for your car, it will affect the operation of the engine. Also, don’t forget to regularly check the condition of the spark plugs every 10,000 kilometers and have them replaced according to the specified distance as well!
