Beware of the heat! Do you know that leaving the car parked in the sun can destroy your car more than you think?

Summer is here! Do you know sunlight doesn't just affect human body, but it also negatively affects the internal parts of the engine too? If the car is parked in the sun for a long time, the heat will build up inside the car and cause so many unexpected problems.

Today, PTT Lubricants has brought to you the problems that can happen to your car if it is parked in the sun for a long time. Let's see!

🔹 Air conditioner will have to work harder

Although the air conditioner was equipped to help repel hot temperatures, if the car is left parked for a long time, heat will build up inside the cabin, making the air conditioner work harder than usual when being turned on. This will finally deteriorate the air conditioning system faster than it should.

🔹 Rubber equipment will deteriorate quickly

Leaving the car parked in the sun for a long time can affect parts made of rubber such as wipers or the edge of the windshield as heat will harden and hasten the deterioration of the rubber. It will also decrease the performance of these parts as well.

🔹 The paint will fade quickly

Since sunlight has UV rays that can affect the paint, if the car is parked in the sun for a long time, sunlight will shine directly onto the car's surface and will alter the color of the car. The changes can be observed by checking if the paint appears more yellowish (in lighter color cars) or if the color has faded (in case of darker color cars).

🔹 Deteriorated tint film

Although the tint film will help protect drivers from the sun, if you park your car in the sun for a long time, the film can deteriorate. Deteriorated film can be easily observed by checking whether the color of the film has changed. If your film has turned purple, that means the film has started to deteriorate.

🔹 Parts inside the cabin deteriorate faster than they should

The heat that accumulates inside the cabin will make various parts inside the cabin deteriorate faster than expected. It will be even faster for parts that have leather as a component, such as console, steering wheels, car seats. These parts will dry and become cracked. For parts with fabric components, the color will fade faster than it should.

🔹 Engine oil deteriorates faster than it should

Hot weather can heat up and deteriorate the engine oil. This will reduce the service life and efficiency of the engine oil.

🔹 The battery deteriorates faster than it should

This often happens with distilled water-filled batteries. If the car is parked in a hot area with poor cooling, the battery will have to work hard and can deteriorate quickly. It can be noticed if the battery starts to swell and the car becomes difficult to start.

All of these are consequences that will happen only IF you leave your car parked in the sun for a long time. Since there are still many other things that every car user should be aware of, don’t forget to always check the condition of the engine!

When finding a parking space, don’t forget to always consider the effects that will follow as the heat can be more harmful than you think. With care from PTT Lubricants 💙
