Let’s save the date! When should each part of your car get replaced?

In addition to driving carefully on the road, it is equally important to check the condition of your car regularly so you can drive safely with confidence. One thing that you should keep in mind when checking the car’s condition is that each part has a different service life and should be checked or replaced accordingly in order to maintain its full performance and for safety when driving on the road.

1. Engine oil and oil filter:

Engine oil is a liquid that lubricates and prevents wear of engine’s parts to allow the engine to run smoothly. Oil filter, meanwhile, helps trap dirt and metal debris in the engine oil to keep your car engine running at its full efficiency. They should be replaced at every 7,000 to 15,000 km or 4 months to 1 year depending on the engine oil grade and using conditions.

2. Battery:

The battery is an important part that provides electrical power supply and backup power for your car. The performance of the battery will decrease over time. Therefore, it should be replaced every 3 - 5 years depending on the environment, battery type and the usage.

3.Air filter:

Air filter helps filter dust and trap dirt from entering the engine to ensure efficient combustion. To extend its service life, the filter should be cleaned once a year and replaced every 2 years or as assessed from the filter condition / dirt. If there is a lot of dirt on the filter, it should be replaced immediately.

4. Brake pads:

Brake pads are an important part that helps your car brake safely. They should be replaced at every 50,000-70,000 kilometers or as assessed from the thickness of the brake pads.

5. Spark plug:

Spark plug is a device creating a spark to start ignition in the engine when we start the vehicle. The plug should be replaced at every 100,000 kilometers or as assessed from the condition of the spark plugs.

6. Front and Rear Shock absorber:

The shock absorber is an equipment controlling the unwanted and excess spring motion, resulting in smooth driving on all types of road conditions. It should be replaced every 3 years or 100,000 -120,000 kilometers depending on the usage and the proper installation method.

7. Transmission fluid:

Transmission fluid helps the operation of the gear system run smoothly. If it is deteriorated, it may result in difficult gear shifting and also increase the risk of gear wear. Fully synthetic automatic transmission fluid should be replaced every 2 years or 40,000 kilometers. Fully synthetic manual transmission fluid should be changed every 3 years or 60,000 kilometers. The change intervals also depend on the driving style.

8. Car Lighting:

Lighting is important equipment that helps us drive safely at night and reduce the risk of accidents on the road. If you notice that any light bulb is getting dimmer than usual or doesn't light up at all, you should change it right away.

9. Tires:

The tires are vital in order to drive safely as they help your car adhere to the road surface, ensuring stability of the car when moving or turning. They also reduce the impact from bumping with the road and increase the comfort for the driver as well. The tires should be replaced every 2-5 years or 30,000 - 40,000 kilometers, depending on usage, or as assessed from the depth of the tread groove and the condition of the tires.

10. Timing belt:

Timing belt is another part of the car that should not be overlooked. Since this belt controls the timing of the engine ignition for smooth running, it should be inspected and replaced every 100,000 km or as assessed from the stretching distance of the belt. Do not wait until the timing belt is damaged or breaks as it may affect the performance of the engine.

11. Clutch:

Clutch helps engage and disengage power from the engine to the powertrain and wheels so that the car can continue to move when changing gears or starting the engine. It should be replaced every 100,000 – 150,000 km or about 10 years or more.

12. Wiper blades:

The blades are an essential equipment for every car as they provide better driving visibility especially when it rains heavily. You can replace them every 1 year or assess from the condition of the wiper rubber or its performance to keep the wiper blades working efficiently all the time.
